Determined to produce high-quality, healthy, and durable wood floors in France while respecting natural resources and never compromising on the ecological impact of its production, the company has adopted a continuous improvement approach. Commercial, human resources, procurement, production, marketing, quality, and design—all departments are involved, and every partner is carefully chosen.

Since 2011, our commitment to the ‘Parquets de France’ label guarantees consumers 100% French manufacturing, using French wood—identifiable and traceable wood exclusively from certified forests, following a quality approach beyond the standard requirements.

Sourcing

We source wood each year from about forty sawmills, supplying wood that has grown, on average, less than 500km from our factories. Since 1929, Panaget has been producing its wood floors from French oak, one of the hardest and densest woods among European tree species. It is a high-density wood with excellent mechanical properties.

Awarded in 2022, the PEFC label is a private forest certification that promotes sustainable forest management. Today, 95% of the wood used in our wood floors comes from forests managed in accordance with PEFC criteria. This certification ensures perfect traceability from the forest to our factories.

Material Optimization

We use a renewable and local raw material—wood—and honour it by using it as efficiently as possible. It all starts at the sawmill, where we purchase boards of varying lengths, widths, and characteristics, allowing the sawmill to minimise waste. This wood diversity enables us to offer a wide range of products.

Depending on the intended use and expected traffic, we offer wood floors with wear layers between 2.5mm and 7mm thick. This allows us to optimize the use of high-quality wood and provide ranges that perfectly suit our customers’ needs.

At Panaget, nothing is wasted; everything is used.

During the manufacturing process, 50% of the raw wood is converted into sawdust, which is then used as biomass fuel in our boiler or sold to external sources.

  • 71% of our top layers meet our specifications from the outset
  • 18% has a slight defect and then fed back into the manufacturing process.
  • 6% dof our top layers are not thick enough to become wood flooring, or show slight sawing or planing marks. Manual sorting enables our operators to carefully preserve these top layers, so that they can be used in our CBM wall panelling ranges (for top layers that are too thin) or our Zenitude-Salvagio wood flooring ranges (for those with planing or sawing marks).

The remaining 5% is 100% recycled, either used to fuel our biomass boiler, the Bouyer Leroux company kilns, or sold for pellet or firewood production.

Reducing and Recycling Waste

What waste? Resources!

Our production process mainly generates wood waste (sawdust, untreated and treated wood, pallets and ash account for 83% of the total), but also common industrial waste, cardboard, plastic and metal.

Our biomass boiler

Since August 2001, our Bourgbarré site has been equipped with a biomass boiler fuelled 100% by sawdust produced whilst cutting our wood flooring and our raw wood waste.

Committed to the circular energy!

Through separation at source and finding the best outlets for each waste stream, we manage to recycle 87.3% of the waste we produce! The goal in the coming years is to aim for 100% recycling, thanks to Bouyer Leroux’s investment in a new boiler that allows for thermal recycling, used for firing its bricks.

We Contribute to Eco-Initiatives!

Every year, we donate a portion of our revenue to CITEO, the eco-organization responsible for the end-of-life management of packaging and paper.

Transportation

Upstream transportation: France and the European Union

Most of our raw materials come from France and other parts of Europe, and they are transported by lorry.

Downstream transportation: no air freight

88% of our wood floors are sold to French customers and delivered by lorry, with an average distance of 450km from our Bourgbarré site.

12% is exported to over 30 countries. Our top three export markets, accounting for 60% of our exports, are the United States, delivered by ship, and the United Kingdom and Switzerland, delivered by road.

Use and end of life

Every year, our floors are installed in thousands of homes, businesses and public buildings, providing comfort and well-being for decades to come.

A healthy, sustainable product for healthy indoor air

The health of our employees and customers, along with environmental protection, are absolute priorities for Panaget. We comply with all existing regulations, particularly the REACH regulation, and minimize the use of chemical products wherever possible. Most of our components are sourced from France, or otherwise from Europe.

As a result, all our wood floors have an A+ rating, ensuring very low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that could pose an inhalation toxicity risk.

In the United States, all the flooring we sell complies with the CARB (California Air Resources Board) standard.

 

Our wood flooring at end of life

For engineered wood flooring, this is a new and complex subject, because the source is diffuse. Our partnership with Valobat, the eco-organisation for the building trades, will enable us to develop techniques and to initiate studies and discussions on the subject.

End-of-life for solid wood flooring, on the other hand, is a much more advanced subject.
