How to maintain a floating wood floor: Our recommendation

Since the 1980s, many French households have turned to floating wood floors. Unlike traditional wood floors, floating wood floors are installed in a floating manner, with the planks interlocking and laid over an underlayer. In fact, to install interlocking floating wood flooring, you don’t need glue or nails, as each plank fits into the next. A floating wood floor is therefore a very easy solution when choosing your floor during a new build or renovation of your home!

Note that floating installation comes in three different forms: laminate flooring, veneer flooring, and engineered wood flooring, unlike solid wood floors, which are glued or nailed down. If you want to install wood flooring in your living room or any other living space, discover all our recommendations for choosing the right type of wood flooring for your room!

Cleaning your floating wood floor

To keep a floating wood floor clean, it is important to clean it regularly and especially whenever a stain appears!

First of all, dry cleaning should be preferred. Indeed, moisture can damage your wood floor, causing darkening or warping.

Using a steam cleaner as well as hot or warm water is completely prohibited for maintaining your wood floor.

Regular Maintenance

Firstly, it is important to dust your floating wood floor with a broom or vacuum cleaner to remove dust and dirt that could get lodged between the planks. If you use a vacuum cleaner, be careful not to scratch your wood flooring by using a special wood floor brush!

For regular cleaning of your floating wood floor, we at Panaget recommend mopping your floating wood floor with a well-wrung microfiber mop, not dripping, at most once a month.
Cleaning should always be done with cold water!

If you have a microfiber mop, even better! Use our wood floor cleaner.

Annual mainenance of a floating wood floor

To restore your floating wood floor to its original condition, and depending on the finish of your wood floor—lacquered or oiled—the annual maintenance will differ.

Lacquered wood floors: Depending on your assessment of the wear of the lacquer, a satin or matt renovating protective coat can be applied 1 to 2 times a year to regenerate the appearance of the lacquer! Thanks to the protective film, it helps to mask scratch

Oiled wood floors:After dusting and cleaning your wood floors, spray Panaget maintenance oil using a sprayer, then wipe with a clean, dry cotton cloth or microfiber until fully absorbed. Let it dry for 4 to 8 hours before walking on it again. Remember to ventilate your room well.

Simple and practical, regular maintenance helps regenerate the protective layer and maintains the natural and warm appearance of oiled wood floors.

Now cleaning your floating wood floor no longer holds any secrets for you! However, don’t be too obsessive. Overly intensive cleaning could allow moisture to seep into your wood floor and damage it permanently…
