Which direction should wood flooring be installed in a bedroom?

Whether it’s a floating or glued-down wood floor, the first question to ask yourself before starting the work is about the direction of the wood floor planks. We provide you with some advice on how to decide which direction to lay a wood floor in a room based on your preferences and respecting basic principles.

The direction of your wood floor installation is related to the main source of light in the room. For an optimal effect, we generally recommended laying the wood floor in the direction of incoming light.

The most common way to install a wood floor

From a technical point of view, a wood floor is installed parallel to the length of your room to limit expansion! This results in fewer cuts and therefore less waste. However, it is especially recommended for a rectangular room.

To visually enlarge your room

We recommend laying the planks parallel to the wall you want to lengthen. For a sense of length in a hallway, lay them parallel to the longest side. To widen a room, orient the planks parallel to the width.
Professional tip: in a narrow room, we advise against using a wood floor color that is too dark, as it may reinforce the narrowness of the room!
In terms of colors, we recommend a light wood floor and dark walls to accentuate the depth effect of the installation!
In a narrow or poorly lit room, prioritize a light wood floor or those with a satin finish to capture light.
